The Allen-Bradley 2098-IPD-020 is an Ultra 5000 Intelligent positioning drive. This drive is used to drive servo motors with high positioning accuracy. This drive features an AC input voltage requirement of 100-240Vrms, 1-Phase to operate and input frequency of 47-63 Hz. It delivers an output power 1.0 kW at 115 VAC input and 2.0 kW at 230VAC input. Additionally, the output current of this drive are 30A Output Peak Current and 10A Continuous Output Current.

When installing this intelligent positioning drive, several considerations must be taken into account. Being classified as a controlgear device, this drive must be installed within an enclosure that complies with the IEC60529 requirement. It must be installed within an enclosure that provides even, rigid and vertical surface that is built with shock limiting components and prevent entry of particulates and contaminants that are commonly found in industrial applications. Additionally, an ambient temperature not exceeding 55° C (131° F) must be maintained. Install approppriate climate control devices such as fans or heaters that are appropriately sized to maintain the required temperature. Mounting clearances must be met as well to ensure proper air flow and enough working and servicing space. Required mounting clearance are 12.7 mm or 0.5 in. side clearances and 50.8 mm or 2.0 in. top and bottom clearances.

The Allen-Bradley 2098-IPD-020 has a single-phase 100-240V AC input voltage, 18 A rms nominal input current, and 47 - 63 Hz AC input frequency. It comes with a continuous output current of 10A and an output peak current of 30A at zero-peak. And at 230V AC input, it has 2 kW continuous power output and 51 Joules energy absorption capability. The 2098-IPD-020 Intelligent Positioning Drive ships with one installation manual (publication 2098-IN001), one screwdriver, two I/O connector plugs, and one clear plastic terminal strip cover. The plastic cover can be installed on the power terminal strip to provide a physical barrier and added protection. The pluggable spring clamp 28-pin CN1A connector is for digital I/O, while the 14-pin CN1B connector is for auxiliary encoder and analog I/O signal connections.

The 230V AC 2098-IPD-020 Servo Drive comes with eight general-purpose digital outputs 7 of which are transistor outputs, plus one single relay output with normally open contacts. It is important to note that these transistor outputs have no overload protection. In a group, these can be configured to be current sinking (active high) or current sourcing (active low). Its commissioning and diagnostic tools are designed to optimize system performance and boost productivity.
