The 844DS encoders have die cast ZAMAC housings with IP65 protection ratings. The 844A and 844B encoders can operate at up to 20G of shock for 11 ms while the 844D encoders can operate at up to 50G of shock for 11 ms. The 844DS encoders can operate at up to 250G for 6 ms.

The 844 encoders in the 844A, 844B, and 844D product lines all have power requirements of 120 mA with no load. Additionally, encoders from all three product lines support code formats of 2 channels with zero index. The 844DS encoders can support 6 signal channels. The 844A and 844B encoders have maximum resolutions of 2500 pulses per revolution, and the 844D and 844DS encoders have maximum resolutions of 16,384 pulses per revolution. The 844 series encoders operate with DC power supplies. Different encoder models require different types of power DC power supplies with different ratings. The 844 encoders in the 844D and 844DS product lines can be mounted with compatible tethers. The maximum operating speed for the 844A and 844B encoders is 3000 RPM at the maximum shaft loading. The maximum slew speed for the 844D encoders is 3000 RPM, and the maximum operating speed for the 844DS encoders is 3600 RPM.
