The Allen-Bradley 445L-R4S0960YD Safe 4 Safety Light Curtain is a general-purpose presence sensing device that is designed for point of operation applications in hazardous machines and environments. The 445L-R4S0960YD Safe 4 Safety Light Curtain belongs to the Allen-Bradley GuardShield series. This device comprises a self-contained, non-matched pair of optical units (a receiver and a transmitter) that are Type 4 Electro Sensitive Protective Equipment (ESPE). The 445L-R4S0960YD Safe 4 Safety Light Curtain is supplied in a standard configuration with an integrated laser alignment system. The 445L-R4S0960YD Safe 4 Safety Light Curtain is designed for hazardous applications such as “point of operation” protection (for finger and hand protection), “access protection”, and “hazardous area” protection. The 445L-R4S0960YD Safe 4 Safety Light Curtain features short-circuit protected OSSD outputs, dust and pollution protection, built-in diagnostic indicators, optical synchronization of signals without cables, and maintenance-free operation.

Both the 445L-R4S0960YD Safe 4 Safety Light Curtain’s transmitter and receiver units operate with 24 Volts DC power over a maximum protective field range of 0.9 meters. The transmitter emits a sequential pulse of infrared lights that are automatically interpreted and processed by the receiver and the synchronization of these signals is achieved optically. The 445L-R4S0960YD Safe 4 Safety Light Curtain has 2 short-circuit protected safety outputs called the “Output Signal Switching Devices” (OSSD). These outputs are current sourcing outputs for 24 Volts DC power with 300 milliamps of current switching capacity when both the transmitter and receiver are properly aligned. The 445L-R4S0960YD Safe 4 Safety Light Curtain has a maximum resolution of 30 millimeters with a maximum protective field range of 18 meters and a protective field height of 960 millimeters. As standard, the 445L-R4S0960YD Safe 4 Safety Light Curtain operates only in the “guard mode” with an automatic restart, but it can be re-configured in other modes such as PSDI mode by using additional external safety devices.
