The 1203-GK1 Remote I/O communications module is manufactured by Allen-Bradley to support I/O communication through a serial link that is connected to a processor, and this serial link allows the 1203-GK1 module to be connected to a processor that is a significant distance away from it. When the 1203-GK1 Remote I/O communications module is being installed, tested, or repaired, the technicians should protect it from static at all times. Static may damage the module. This communications module provides a direct digital link for communication between an Allen-Bradley programmable controller (PLC) and a single Allen-Bradley SCANport device. Multiple modules like the 1203-GK1 Remote I/O communications module can accommodate connections to multiple SCANport devices, but each module can only connect to 1 SCANport device at a time.

The Allen-Bradley 1203-GK1 Remote I/O communications module can be protected by a NEMA Type 1 rated enclosure and it needs a power supply device that is rated for 24 Volts DC, +/- 10%. This communications module can mount on a DIN Rail. The Allen-Bradley drives that this communications module is compatible include the 1305 AC MICRO drive, the SMC Dialog Plus drive, the 1394 AC Multi-Axis Motion Control system, and a variety of 1336 series drives such as the 1336 PLUS, PLUS II, FORCE, IMPACT, REGEN, and SPIDER drives. The 1203-GK1 Remote I/O communications module comes with DIP switches that are used to configure the module for the system that it will be installed in. This communications module needs SCANport and Remote I/O cables in order to be installed.
