The Allen-Bradley 1203-GK2 serial communications module is part of Series B of the Allen-Bradley Bulletin 1203 serial communication module product line. This communications module communicates through a DH-485 port and RS-232, RS-422, and RS-483 ports that use the DF1 Protocol. The 1203-GK2 serial communications module is sensitive to ESD or Electrostatic Discharge that can damage the module or disrupt its communications. This communications module is an optional interface module that users can install on several different Allen-Bradley drives to customize and configure them for communication through a direct digital link. It can create this direct digital link with any Allen-Bradley drive that has a SCANport. Compatible Allen-Bradley drives include the 1557 medium voltage drives, 1305 drives, and the 1336 PLUS and FORCE drives.

The Allen-Bradley 1203-GK2 serial communications module is available as either an open module or an enclosed module. If this communications module has an open configuration, it can be mounted inside the connected drive if the drive is big enough. The enclosed communication module can be independently mounted. An open 1203-GK2 serial communications module uses the drive’s power supply source and it works with the analog 1394 drives and the 1336 FORCE and PLUS drives with Horsepower output ratings of at least 7.5 Horsepower. The enclosed 1203-GK2 serial communications module has an IP 30 rated enclosure and it needs a separate power source that supplies 24 Volts DC voltage or 120 to 240 Volts AC voltage. Enclosed communications modules are compatible with most SCANport products including the Allen-Bradley 1305 and SMP3 drives.
