The 1715-AENTR Ethernet Adapter Module is produced by Allen-Bradley for the 1715 Redundant I/O systems. This module support Device Level Ring (DLR) or Start Topologies through its dual Ethernet Communication port with autosensing capability. It serves as “proxy” module to all Ethernet I/P messages that goes in and out of the redundant I/O modules.

This redundant I/O family is especially designed for the ControlLogix family of Programmable Automation Controllers (PAC). Implementing Redundant I/O system, as well as redundant communication network increases process uptime and reduces the risk of unwanted system downtime.

When this module is used in simplex mode, a redundant ethernet network is achieved, however. Failure of the single adapter module disrupts the entire communication network. If used in duplex mode, failure of one of the Two (2) module will not affect the communication network. With this, system availability is increased.

Use of the 1715 module family as well as the 1715-AENTR is ideal in modern and more critical system. This system does not require cross cabling of I/Os as the switching of active I/O module is done through the intelligent sensing and detection of the 1715 backplane. Though the ControlLogix family already supports implementation of native Redundant controller and communication systems, it is not capable of implementing redundant I/O. This is why the 1715 system is developed by Allen-Bradley.

The 1715-AENTR is placed on the leftmost part of the 1715 rack. The 1715-AENTR is an Ethernet/IP adapter module that belongs to the 1715 Redundant I/O systems of Allen-Bradley. The 1715 redundant I/O platform is known for its exceptional hassle-free use and programming-free operation. The 1715-AENTR can be used for either standard or extreme environment applications and it provides support for critical applications. These modules are extremely flexible, and they provide support for application configurations such as those that are classified as non-safety or as simplex or duplex. In addition to that, the use of the 1715-AENTR does not require Add-On Instructions (AOIs), irregular cross-wiring of the inputs and outputs, or complex programming. Besides this, the Bulletin 1715 product series includes redundant Ethernet adapters that are built for operations where faults are tolerated in certain situations. In addition to that, this adapter module provides exceptional diagnostics capabilities, including functionalities such as native device intelligence enabling status monitoring with the use of internal diagnostics, special alerts for issues that can arise from current irregularities (open/short circuits, thresholds, or rate-of-change). The redundant I/O system includes power supply connectors, an adapter backplane (2 or 3 slots), DLR ports, redundant termination assemblies, and other components. The network into which this platform is implemented tolerates faults and it does not require the use of any supplementary components. In addition to that, the redundant Ethernet/IP adapters in redundant architectures provide an exceptional level of resiliency. The 1715-AENTR Ethernet adapter module offers a flexible configuration where a separate connection and a separate termination assembly splits the signal and directs it to both modules. These configurations include duplex termination adapters, duplex input modules, and duplex output modules.
