The 1715 Redundant I/O platforms are true redundant I/O platforms manufactured by Allen-Bradley/Rockwell Automation. The platforms do not require additional hardware to operate. Also, the 1715 Redundant I/O platforms do not require user programming. The 1715 Redundant I/O platforms support both standard and extreme environments. The 1715 I/O platforms provide flexibility by supporting a range of applications and configurations in a single product. Additionally, the 1715 Redundant I/O platforms offer a wide range of support for critical applications that span from non-safety applications to those that support both duplex and simplex configuration. To ensure a higher level of fault tolerance, the 1715 Redundant I/O platforms feature redundant Ethernet adapters that in turn feature premier diagnostic functionalities. The platforms are advantageous since they allow redundancy systems to be put where they are required in an industrial system.
The modules used with the 1715 Redundant I/O platforms have native device intelligence support. allowing them to use their internal diagnostics to monitor their own health. To enable them to do this, the modules perform multiple samples of a single signal by using different criteria and alerts for possible issues such as short circuits and unexpected rates of change. The Allen-Bradley 1715 Redundant I/O platforms accommodate modules such as an Ethernet adapter module, a 16-channel digital input module, an 8-channel digital output module, a 2-slot adapter base, a termination assembly, a 2-meter backplane extender cable, a short slot filter, and a tall slot filter. Note that 1715 Redundant I/O modules contain extremely flexible configurations that allow for a single connection to be made and the termination assembly handles the splitting of the signal to both modules. These platforms have an approximate weight of 250 grams each and they can operate in environments with temperatures between -25 and 60 degrees Celsius.
