The Allen-Bradley 803-A54X Rotating Cam Limit Switch is a circuit control switch used with industrial machinery with long operation lives and repetitive operation cycles for application where the machinery motion is equal to the cam switch’s shaft movements. It is suitable for applications like steel forming, water gates/locks, and injection molding, and it operates by using a shaft-mounted cam. Its 5 circuits have a cam-opened normally-closed double break contact, and a 150 RPM rated rotating shaft with over-sized ball bearings. The 803-A54X also has a contact mounted cam-roller assembly, with a Keyway (slot) for connecting machines to the shaft, and 5 independent cam operators with adjustable cam segments (lobes and valleys). As the shaft rotates, the cam lobes press against the cam roller, activating the circuit in the process, and when the valley passes by the cam roller, the circuit is deactivated.
The duration of this activation is called the dwell time, and it is determined by the length of the cam lobes. The cam achieves its maximum dwell time when its lobes are offset at the maximum angle, and it maintains a minimum dwell time when they perfectly align. It has a timing that is measured in degrees and determined by the position of the cam relative to the keyway, and like every Style “B” switch, the device has a minimum and maximum cam duration of 14 and 346 degrees, respectively. The 803-A54X has an internally-adjusted dwell and timing, which determines the machine’s operation, and it comes with a customized double shaft extension. It has an operating temperature range of -22 to 150 degrees Fahrenheit with a non-operating range of -22 to 200 degrees Fahrenheit, and it is enclosed in a NEMA Type 4 and 13 enclosure.
