The Allen-Bradley 803-A84 is a Rotating Cam Limit Switch (of the family of 803 switches). This is a heavy duty industrial device from the condition sensing switches product family. It is directly connected to mechanisms in applications where repetitive and precise control operations are required. The main ability of this rotating cam limit switch is to open or close circuits for control or feedback at user-defined angular positions. It is usually applied to machines that operate at relatively slow speeds but do need very accurate repetitive positioning. This kind of device implements both rotating directions and can be adapted to work in any plane.
The 803-A84 has an “A style” bulletin 803 designed housing. The number of control or feedback contacts (each triggered over an independent cam operator assembly) is eight (8). The current capacity, for these mechanically robust contacts, is 25A, and the enclosure of this product is a 4 & 13 industrial enclosure (with a high protection rate from the intrusion of water, dust, and oil). This rotating cam limit switch comes with a left-hand shaft extension. For desired device behavior, the user will have to perform internal dwell and timing adjustments. The “timing” adjustment is a parameter that mechanically determines when contact opening will occur. Dwell time is determined by the positioning and length of the cam segments. This is the time span in which the contact remains open. The Allen-Bradley 803-A84 weighs 55 pounds (24.9 kilograms) and its dimensions (shaft excluded) are 17.38 x 18.44 x 6.81 inches (441.3 x 468.3 x 173.0 millimeters). Its operating temperature is -22 to 150 degrees Fahrenheit (-30 to 66 degrees Celsius). This rotating cam limit switch has not been manufactured by Allen-Bradley since 2007.
