The Allen-Bradley 803-B2 is a Style B rotating cam limit switch that is part of Allen-Bradley’s Bulletin 803 series of cam switches. It can function without derating at a temperature range of -22 to 150 degrees Fahrenheit and it can be stored in an environment with an ambient temperature range of -22 to 200 degrees Fahrenheit. Note that if the operation or storage temperature is below 32 degrees Fahrenheit, the atmosphere must be free of water or other fluids that will condense on the cam limit switch and freeze, because this will reduce the switch’s efficiency.
The 803-B2 rotating cam limit switch has several features with unusual names. Its keyway is a slot in the shaft that connects the 803-B2’s drive shaft to a bigger machine. The lobe is the highest possible position of the 803-B2’s cam segments which activates the circuit by pushing up against the cam roller assembly. The valley is the lowest possible position of the cam segments and the valley can pass the cam roller assembly by without activating the 803-B2’s circuit. The 803-B2’s dwell time is the amount of time for which the circuit is activated and how long it lasts depends on the size of the 803-B2’s cam lobes and the position of the 2 cam segments. The dwell time is shortest when the segments are aligned and it is longest when the 2 segments are offset at the biggest possible angle. The dwell time is measured in degrees of an angle, and the 803-B2 rotating cam limit switch’s minimum dwell time 14 degrees and the maximum dwell time is 346 degrees.
