The 803-B54 Rotating Cam Limit Switch is a heavy-duty circuit control switch from Allen-Bradley which is used with machines that have repetitive cycles of operation in industrial processes where the machine motion correlates with the switch’s rotation. The 803-B54 cam switch, which is a Style “B” device, is built for industrial operations with long operating lives and heavy-duty applications and it makes use of cam-mounted on a rotating shaft for operation. It has 5 circuits with snap-action contacts, and it has a rotating shaft with a 150 RPM base shaft speed. The 803-B54 also has a spring-loaded cam-roller assembly, and 5 independently-operated cam assemblies with adjustable lobes and valleys. Machines are connected to the switch’s shaft via a keyway slot, and as the shaft rotates, the cam lobes pass by the cam-roller, activating the circuit in the process, and the circuit is de-activated when the cam valleys pass by the cam-roller assemblies.
The 803-B54 switch has an activation period (dwell time) corresponding to the size of the lobe, and the device can achieve its maximum dwell time when the lobes angularly offset, and it has a minimum dwell time when the lobes are exactly aligned. When the shaft rotates, the cam rotates also, and the angular degree of rotation (timing) is determined by the position of the rotating cam, relative to the keyway, and the timing in degrees determines how long the cam will activate the circuit during the rotation cycle. The 803-B54 has cam duration limits of 14 degrees minimum and 346 degrees maximum, and it has an internal dwell timing adjustment, which determines the operation of machines. It has a factory standard left shaft extension, and it is enclosed in a NEMA Type 4, and 13, dust-tight, dirt-tight, and oil-tight industrial enclosure. It has a working temperature range of -22 to 150 degrees Fahrenheit, and a storage range of -22 to 200 degrees Fahrenheit. The 803-B54 has a net weight of 22.2 kilograms (49 pounds) and has total shipping dimensions of 301.6 x 82.6 x 177.8 millimeters (11.88 x 3.25 x 7 inches).
