The 803-B6W cam switch is an Allen-Bradley/Rockwell Automation rotating cam limit switch from the Bulletin 803 series. It is one of the Allen-Bradley Bulletin 803 series switches that comes with an external adjustment sprocket. The external adjustment sprocket in the 803-B6W rotating cam limit switch can change the relative position between the shaft and the driving mechanism in the system. This switch has 6 cam operators that can all function independently and that have cam duration ratings of 14 degrees minimum and 346 degrees maximum. The 803-B6W rotating cam limit switch can operate at temperatures between -22 and 150 degrees Fahrenheit.

The 803-B6W is a Style “B” Bulletin 803 Rotating Cam Limit Switch manufactured by Allen-Bradley. The design of the 803-B6W consists of a rotating shaft and a contact base with a spring-loaded cam-roller mounted onto it. The cams on this module are supposed to activate the contacts whenever the shaft makes a rotation. The shaft can not exceed a speed of 150 Revolutions Per Minute (RPM). This Rotating Cam Limit Switch has timing adjustments and internal dwell. The cam’s position on the shaft is a major influence in the timing. The circuit is set in motion by the lobe that presses against the cam roller assembly. Dwell time is the magnitude of time used by the cam lobe to actuate the circuit. On the other hand, the vastness of the cam lobes and the positions of the cam segments determine the dwell time. It is recommended to make the dwell adjustment and the internal timing when the device is not moving. To modify the switch, ensure that the cover is detached and the cam bolts are loosened. Don’t forget to rotate the cams to their suitable position. Tighten the bolts and fix up the cover once the cams are in the desired position. The 803-BW6 has been modified to incorporate an external adjustment sprocket. The addition of the sprocket has made the changing of the relative position between the shaft and the driving mechanism easier. The sprocket has a pitch diameter of 145.64 millimeters in between its 48 teeth. The 803-B6W is a snap action switch that has a rating of 10A continuous current. This means that the contacts snap over when the cam lobes engage the cam-roller. This results in the closing of the (N.O) normally open contact and the opening of the (N.C) normally closed contact. The Rotating Cam Limit Switch employs six circuits to perform its operations. The 803-BW6, which has a type 1 general purpose enclosure, has a dimension of 8.31 inches. The switch also has a weight of 14.1 kilograms.
