The Allen-Bradley 803-P4W is a Style P heavy-duty rotating cam limit switch equipped with 4 circuits and an external adjustment sprocket that allows the user to configure the relative position of the driving mechanism and shaft. Allen-Bradley 803 series switches, including this switch, have a spring-loaded cam-roller assembly which is mounted onto its contact base. The 803-P4W also has internal dwell time and timing settings which users can adjust, but only if the device is not operating. You can mount this switch on any plane without affecting its rotation, as it works well in either direction. Standard features of Style P switches that are included on the 803-P4W switch are a 400 RPM maximum shaft speed, a minimum cam duration of 11° and a maximum duration of 349°, and 25 Amp. N. C. or normally closed double break contacts.

The enclosure rating of the 803-P4W switch is Type 1 and it weighs approximately 18 lbs or 8.2 kg. The switch has a non-operating temperature of -30-93 °C, and an operating temperature of -30-66 °C.  With a long product lifespan, manufacturers can use this switch for machines featuring repetitive operation cycles where the machine motion and the shaft rotation are correlated. Some of the applications suitable for the 803-P4W switch are injection molding, steel forming, heavy metals, assembly, and packing. The cam switch’s typical shaft torques are 3 pounds on an inch when the cam roller rides on the lobe, 7 pounds on an inch when the cam roller rides up the cam ramp, and 0.5 pounds on an inch with the cam roller in the valley.
