The 803-P5 manufactured by Allen Bradley is a style “P” rotating cam switch from the 803 series of cam switches. The 803-P5 switch has 5 circuits on the inside and comes in a Type 1 enclosure that is safe for general use applications. The current rating of the contacts is around 25 Amps at maximum, while the speed of the shaft is 400 RPM. The 803-P5 has a shaft on the right-hand side as a standard for this switch. The 803-P5  is also available with cams. These cams are used to adjust the dwell timings of the rotating cam switches. The size of the 803-P5 excluding the shaft is 7.13 inches in length, 5.63 inches in height, and 8.96 inches in width, while the shaft length itself is 1.5 inches. 21 pounds or 9.5 kilograms is the approximate weight of the 803-P5 when being shipped.

The 803-P5 can operate in a temperature zone between -22 and 150 degrees Fahrenheit (-30 to 66 degrees Celsius), whereas a temperature between -22 and 150 degrees Fahrenheit (-30 to 93 degrees Celsius) is required for this module’s storage conditions. Some of the various parts that make up the cam switch are the lobes, valley, and keyway. The lobe is the high position of the cam; it pushes the cam roller to activate the equipment. The valley, on the other hand, is the low position of the cam segment, allowing the roller to pass without activating any of the equipment. The keyway is the shaft itself, which is used for the purpose of connecting the driven shaft to the machine and is used as a reference as 0 degrees. The timing of activation is determined by the position of the cam and is relative to a 0-degree angle.
