The 803-P8X rotating cam limit switch is an Allen-Bradley/Rockwell Automation Bulletin 803 series rotating cam limit switch with a double shaft extension. Most of the Bulletin 803 series switches have just 1 shaft extension, but this switch comes with a left extension and right extension. Additionally, the 803-P8X rotating cam limit switch’s shaft is designed to rotate in both directions at up to 400 RPM. This switch’s normally closed contacts support current ratings of 25 Amps and they can be opened by the switch’s cams. The 803-P8X rotating cam limit switch comes with 8 internally adjustable cams.

The 803-P8X is part of the Bulletin 803 series from Allen Bradley. It is a rotating cam limit switch, designed to sense the rotational cycle of the system to which it is applied. This module initiates functions at different parts of the machine’s cycle, allowing it to open and close contacts while the shaft is rotating. The 803-P8X is just one modification of the sturdy selection Rotating Cam Limit Switches from the 803 series. This is a Style “P” Bulletin 803 switch, meaning that it is a high-speed switch with a low-cost internal adjustment. It has N.C. (Normally Closed) double break contacts and provides a constant current of 25 A. It features 8 independent cam operators with a maximum shaft speed of 400 RPM and comes with a Type 1 enclosure; it is also available with cams. (The 803-PL8 modification can be ordered if the user wishes to purchase a switch without cams.).

Unlike other Bulletin 803 variants, the 803-P8X comes with a double shaft extension. The width of the 803-P8X is 7.13 inches with a height of 5.44 inches and its weight with cams is around 30 pounds. Most of the Bulletin 803 models come with a spring-loaded cam roller assembly, which is mounted to the base of the contact. These cam assemblies have two adjustable cam segments for every cam. The 803-P8X also has a rotating shaft. As the cam rotates on the shaft, the lobes of the cam push against the roller assembly to initiate the circuit. When the valley goes by the cam roller, the contact returns to its initial state. The position of this cam determines when the circuit opens or closes within the cycle. It is important to set the dwell and timing of the circuit accurately to get the desired results.
