The 803-PL3W cam switch is a cam switch with an external adjustment sprocket. It has been designed and manufactured by Allen-Bradley/Rockwell Automation as part of the Bulletin 803 series and the Style P product line. The 803-PL3W cam switch is one of the Style P switches that does not have built-in cams. It can accommodate 3 cams that are sold separately in Allen-Bradley Bulletin 803 series cam kits and that need to be installed by the operators. The external adjustment sprocket in the 803-PL3W cam switch can be used to change the relative position of the switch’s shaft and the driving mechanism.

The Allen-Bradley 803-PL3W is a rotating limit switch that belongs to the 803 series of rotating cam limit switches. This unit enables the user to start with a brand-new cam limit switch, to which more than one cam may be added. This limit switch variation is a switch with an operator but without cams, although up to three cams may be added, which may be chosen depending on the contacts opening and the closure that is required for a specific industrial application. The Allen-Bradley 803-PL3W rotating limit switch operates with a capacity of 25 Amps and with a 400 RPM maximum shaft speed. It counts with a snap action contact assembly once cams have been installed on the unit and a spring-loaded cam roller assembly is mounted to the contact base.

The base of this unit is made of a heavy steel which offers durability and counts with a mechanism that helps the unit work under high levels of vibration. The enclosure of the 803-PL3W limit switch is a Type 1 enclosure, making this unit an exclusively indoor unit. This enclosure protects the unit from particles entering into the enclosure and into the unit. The weight of this unit is around 14 pounds, which is equal to 6.4 kilograms. The Allen-Bradley 803-PL3W rotating limit switch counts with a drive sprocket, which provides a means for change of the relative position between the driving mechanism and its shaft. A number 35 chain with 0.38 inches (9.53 millimeters) is used to adjust the sprocket. The sprocket that is used has 48 teeth with a 5.73 inch (145.64 millimeter) pitch diameter.
