The 803-PL6 Rotating Cam Limit Switch with a Less Operator Cam Option is a heavy-duty circuit control device by Allen-Bradley used with industrial machinery with repetitive operation cycles in a process where machines motion correlates with shaft motion. The device is suitable for long-lived industrial heavy operations like assembling and packaging, steel forming, injection molding, and punch press applications, and like all Bulletin 803 Devices, it makes use of a shaft-mounted cam switch. It comes with 6 normally closed (NC) contact circuits, with a contact base-mounted spring-loaded cam roller, and with a 400 RPM-rated rotating shaft with over-sized ball bearings. The 803-PL6 also has 6 or fewer cam assemblies with adjustable lobes and valleys and when the shaft rotates, the cam actuates contact by brushing the lobes against the cam-roller assembly, opening the NC contact. The circuit is de-activated when the valley passes through the cam-roller, and the activation period (dwell time) is determined by the size of the cam lobes.

The cam can achieve maximum dwell time when the adjacent lobes offset at a maximum angle, and it produces the minimum dwell time when the lobes align perfectly. It has a timing measured in angular degree, which is determined by the position of the cam relative to the Top Dead Center, and the 803-PL6 has a timing duration range between 110 and 3490.
