The Allen-Bradley 803-PL8LH is a Style P rotating cam limit switch from Allen-Bradley’s Bulletin 803 Series of cam limit switches. Rotating cam limit switches are capable of sensing the movement of rotating machinery (shafts) and capable of initiating different functions at various points on the shaft’s repetitive cycle. These cam limit switches open and close their contacts at different angles during the machine shaft rotation. Applications for 803 series switches like the 803-PL8LH switch include punch pressing, assembly, packing, injection molding, waterway gate operations, and steel or heavy metals forming. These low-maintenance switches are manufactured for years of use in heavy-duty applications. The 803-PL8LH’s switch shaft assemblies rotate smoothly on long-lasting, precision bearings. The switch supports both clockwise and counterclockwise rotation and it can be mounted in any orientation, at any angle, on any plane for maximum application flexibility. The cams that it controls are not included and must be ordered separately. The switch’s cam dwell duration can vary from 11 to 349 degrees. The 803-PL8LH and other Type P switches support adjustable internal dwell time and timing settings, but these can only be changed when the device is not moving. For the Style P switches, the right-hand shaft extension is usually available as a standard feature: however, on the 803-PL8LH switch, the shaft has a left shaft extension (which is indicated by the “LH” suffix in its part number). The 803-PL8LH rotating cam limit switch is available in a Type 1 (general purpose) enclosure only. Its operating temperature range is -22 to 150 degrees Fahrenheit (-30 to 66 degrees Celsius) and it weighs 10 kilograms.
