The Allen-Bradley 1756-DMA31 ControlLogix drive module can be used on SynchLink, a fiber optic communication link that allows for the implementation of distributed motion and drive systems based on the PowerFlex 700S and the ControlLogix systems. Synchlink can be used together with standard control network protocols such as the Ethernet or ControlNet protocols. SynchLink can be used for two applications which are time synchronization and data transfer applications. A ControlLogix SynchLink module such as the 1756-DMA31 module resides on an Allen-Bradley ControlLogix chassis and connects to SynchLink. This ControlLogix SynchLink module can be used for coordinated drive control, distribution motion control, and time synchronization. The 1756-DM modules such as the 1756-DMA31 module are single-slot ControlLogix modules for interfacing with the Reliance Electric DPS (Distributed Power System) drive equipment. Each 1756-DMA31 module interfaces with a single PMI (power module interface) chassis and it performs velocity, position, and torque control.

The 1756-DMA31 module is compatible with the SA3100 DPS drive, which is an AC drive. The 1756-DMA31 module supports a 650-nanometer optical wavelength for SynchLink and an 820-nanometer optimal wavelength for drive communication. The data rates supported for SynchLink and drive communication are 5 Mbps and 10 Mbps, respectively. The SynchLink connecting cable is 200/230 micron HCS fiber cable with a maximum length of 300 meters. The drive communication cable is 1-millimeter plastic or 200M glass fiber with 300 meters of maximum length. The 1756-DMA31 module draws 1.35 Amps of current at 5.1 volts DC and 3 milliamps at 24 Volts DC from the chassis backplane and it dissipates a maximum of 6.96 Watts. The operating temperature range for the 1756-DMA31 module is from 0 to 60 degrees Celsius.
