The Allen-Bradley 1756-L81ES controller is an Allen-Bradley GuardLogix 5580 safety controller. It can perform 31 standard tasks and 1 safety task. The number of programs supported per task is 1000 programs. The integrated communication ports on the 1756-L81ES controller include one USB port and one Ethernet port. The USB port complies with the USB 2.0 standards and it supports a 12 Mbps data rate. The Ethernet port can support 10/100, and1000 Mbps data rates. The optional communication modules available for the 1756-L81ES controller include the ControlNet, DeviceNet, Remote I/O, DH+, and SynchLink modules. The maximum number of Ethernet/IP nodes supported is 100 nodes.

This module supports implementation of redundancy with the use of ControlLogix redundancy modules. For this high-availability requirement, the compatible power supply are 1756-PA75R, 1756-PA75RK, 1756-PB75R, 1756-PB75RK, 1756-PSCA2, 1756-PSCA2K.

It has an intuitive diagnostic display that provides a textual description of the module’s status.

With the use of this controller, Safety Instrumentation Level (SIL) 2 is achieved. This module supports mix of standard ControlLogix and Safety I/O and may also implement topologies that a standard ControlLogix can support.
