The MVI56E-LDM is a Linux Development module from Allen-Bradley’s encompass partner company, Prosoft Technology. This module is primarily used to implement Linux-based custom solutions and applications for integration with ControlLogix controllers by means of the integrated Application Program Interface (API). This module comes with a dedicated 400MHz ARM9 G20 processor supporting Linux (kernel 2.6.33.7) and Linux distribution of Timesys. It has a built-in 64 MB SDRAM and Flash memory of 256MB NAND Flash, Two (2) independent Ethernet ports, and Two (2) independent RS232 / 422 / 485 combo ports. The MVI56E-LDM is also provided with a Linux Virtual Machine (VM) and development environment that is accessed through the module manufacturer’s website. This virtual machine is provided with a toolchain and libraries and utilizes the Eclipse Integrated Development Environment (IDE). This module is a single-slot module with a fanless design and scrolling LED display with scroll function for viewing of custom messages such as alarms, status, among others. This module has a backplane current draw of 800 mA at 5 VDC and 3 mA at 24 VDC. It is installed with LE status indicators such as (ERR) Application driven, (APP) Application driven, and (OK) Application driven status. The ethernet ports of this module support a 10/100 Mbps transmission rate utilizing the RJ45 connector. It is also capable of auto-negotiation and auto-sensing of crossover cable function, eliminating the need of using an ethernet switch for a point-to-point connection. The serial application ports are RJ45 (DB-9M with supplied adapter cable) that is configurable for RS-232 hardware handshaking and supports setting to RS-232, RS-422, RS-485 via the embedded jumper ports.

The MVI56E-LDM module is a Linux development module which allows the users to develop and install custom C / C++ algorithm applications in Allen-Bradley ControlLogix systems. The module includes an integrated API for processor communication through the backplane. The module package includes RJ-45 to DB-9 male cables and a DB9 to screw terminal adapter. The Linux development module kit is not included and it needs to be ordered separately. The features of the MVI56E-LDM module include 2 Ethernet ports, 2 serial ports, a scrolling LED screen for custom message displays, a fan-less industrial design, a Linux virtual machine with pre-installed libraries, a toolchain, and an Eclipse IDE, a Linux development environment provided on the development kit DVD, and multiple example applications for Ethernet and serial ports. The serial ports support multiple protocols including the RS 232, RS 422, and RS 485 protocols. The Ethernet ports support 10/100 Mbps and auto crossover cable detection. The LED screen can be used to display the module version, IP address, port settings, and status and error messages. The CPU on the Linux MVI56E-LDM module is a 400 Megahertz ARM9 G20 Linux. The module operating system is the Linux system (kernel 2.6.33.7). Linux is distributed by Timesys. The module memory unit is a 64 MB SD RAM unit. The flash memory provided on the module is a 256 MB NAND flash unit. The MVI56E-LDM module supports a maximum of 16 GB of compact flash (not provided with the module). The MVI56E-LDM module can operate at 5 and 32 Volts DC and it draws 800 and 3 milliamps of current, respectively. The relative humidity around the module needs to be maintained between 5 and 95% (without condensation). The storage and working temperature ranges are from -40 to 85 degrees Celsius and from 0 to 60 degrees Celsius, respectively.
