The Allen-Bradley 1797-IE8 is a Flex Ex analog input module. This module features an Intrinsically Safe (IS) input type with ratings of Ex ia IIB/IIC T4 AEx ia IIC T4 Class I, II, III Division 1 Group A-G T4 and Intrinsically Safe module type of Ex ib IIB/IIC T4 AEx ib IIC T4 Class I, II, III Division 1 Groups A-D T4.

The 1797-IE8 has Eight (8) non-isolated, analog input channels. Each channel is individually configured and capable of receiving 0-20 mA and 4-20 mA signals with resolution of 16-bits. It The analog data is internally converted into digital data with configurable data formats. The module has an accuracy of 0.1% of output signal range at 20 °C (68 °F) and Temperature drift of 0.05%/C of output signal range.

The modules has an approximate update rate of 200 ms as the fastest and 1600 µs as the worst update time. This update rate depends greatly on the distance of the module from the communication adapter.

The 1797-IE8 is designed with internal diagnostics, enabling the module to detect alarm situations such as lead breakage detection, overrange/underrange alarms and remote transmitter alarm.

The 1797-IE8 requires an equally rated terminal base. Compatible terminal base includes 1797-TB3 or 1797-TB3S. It cannot be used with standard Flex I/O terminal bases. When establishing I/O connections to the terminal base, recommended wire size is 4mm2 (12 AWG), stranded copper wire. Additionally, the recommended insulation thickness is 1.2 mm (3/64 in.). The module’s keyswitch assignment is position 3.
