The 1779-KP5 module is an interface module designed and manufactured by Allen-Bradley/Rockwell Automation. The module is part of the Bulletin 1779/Series B product line and it is primarily used for communication between different networks. The 1779-KP5 module supports the Data Highway II and Data Highway Plus local area networks. The Data Highway networks provide remote programming capabilities, an easy configuration process, and powerful interfaces. With the 1779-KP5 module, the users can connect multiple Data Highway Plus networks to the Data Highway network. This module can also be used for connecting a controller to a Data Highway II network. The supported controller family is the PLC-5 series.
In addition to that, the Allen-Bradley 1779-KP5 module can be used for creating a high-speed communications link between the Data Highway network and several Data Highway Plus subnetworks. The Data Highway Plus network supports direct connection to PLC-5 devices and other industrial terminals for programming. The network uses THE token-passing protocol for efficient and reliable data transport. The 1779-KP5 module is a stand-alone component that has interface ports for the above-mentioned Data Highway II (dropline) and the Data Highway Plus (dropline) communication. Also, the module has an interface port for the Allen-Bradley 1784-T50 industrial workstation and it supports a redundant cable system. The product code for the supported redundant system is the Allen-Bradley 1779-KP5R redundant system. The 1779-KP5 module requires an input voltage of 115 or 230 Volts AC and it has a standard input frequency range of 47 to 63 Hertz. In addition to that, the module has a current of 1.5 or 0.75 Amps. It should be mentioned that the 1779-KP5 module requires additional cabling for connecting an industrial terminal.
