The Allen-Bradley 1771-CX2 PLC-5 Local I/O Bus Terminator Cable Assembly is a 2-meter connection cable for connecting local I/O adapters in a PLC-S system. This cable is supplied with the Allen-Bradley PLC–5/40L or PLC–5/60L Programmable Controllers, and it is also supplied with the Allen-Bradley 1771–ALX Local I/O Adapter. This cable allows for easy connection of the Local I/O to the BUS module, and it can be disconnected without interrupting the bus communication from the rest of the system. The 1771-CX2 termination cable assembly can be used to connect up to 16 local I/O adapters to the system, and this cable has a dual–end connector on one end and a single–end connector on the other for two-way connection.
The 1771-CX2  dual–end connector is used for connecting to a mating connector on the adapter module, while the other single-end of the cable is connected to either a programmable controller or to the adjacent 1771–ALX Local I/O Adapter in the system. The 1771-CX2 is installed by inserting both the dual end and the single-end connector to the local I/O adapter and to the controller or the next available adapter and tightening screws, and when the last adapter in the system is connected to the system, a termination cable called the 1771–CXT is connected to the dual end connector of the adapter to terminate the connection.
