The Allen-Bradley/Rockwell Automation 1771-IN module is a PLC 5 series AC/DC input module. It only needs 1 slot in an Allen-Bradley Bulletin 1771 chassis and it features 8 input channels. The 1771-IN AC/DC input module dissipates a minimum of 0.4 Watts of power and a maximum of 5.4 Watts of power during operation. The backplane current rating of this input module is 8 milliamps at 5 Volts DC. The 1771-IN AC/DC input module does not have any isolation between its 8 input channels.

The Allen-Bradley 1771-IN is one of the PLC5 Digital AC/DC input modules that consists of 8 inputs. The AC operating voltage for this input device is 12-28V while it has no DC operating voltage. This module interfaces to On/Off devices like pushbuttons, limit switches, pilot lights, motor starters, and enunciators. All current programmable controllers from Allen-Bradley are compatible with these modules. The best part of the 1771-IN module is that it saves a lot of system engineering, spare parts, training costs, and inventory. The electrical-optical isolations and filter circuits of the AC I/O modules help in the troubleshooting of the system whenever required. The input or output status of the 1771-IN module is displayed by the indicator lights. These status indicators are placed on the front panel and they show the ON/OFF condition of every individual output or input. The 1771-IN module draws power through the 1771 I/O chassis backplane along with the associated chassis power supply. This device draws a maximum of 80mA backplane current of which the maximum AC off-state current is 28mA. One great feature of this device is the fault mode selection which allows you to select the last state or to reset it to the last configuration in case of output failure. This can be done with the help of a configuration plug positioned on the edge of the printed circuit board. The 1771-IN converts the signals to the appropriate logic levels to be used in the processor.
