The Allen-Bradley 5110FP is the filler plate for the Allen-Bradley Pyramid Integrator (PI) chassis. The PI chassis houses the various modules that make up the PLC-5/250 programmable controller. The PLC-5/250 controller is the most powerful member of the PLC-5 family. It offers numerous benefits including multi-processor capability, parallel processing, enhanced memory, enhanced I/O handling capacity, simultaneous execution of multiple tasks, and support for several communication protocols (DECNet, Ethernet, and DH /DH+). Two types of PI chassis are available: the four-slot 5110-A4 and the eight-slot 5110-A8. Different modules that make up the 5/250 system – the power supply, logic processor, resource manager, local/remote I/O scanners, and the DH/DH+ interface - are installed in slots in the PI chassis. The 5110FP filler plates are installed in PI slots that are not occupied by system modules. Not installing filler plates in empty slots can lead to chassis and/or module damage. Installing filler plates aids in facilitating air flow through the chassis especially when a fan chassis is used. Installing filler plates also increases noise immunity.
The 5110FP can either be installed in slots that are not earmarked for any system module or they can be installed when modules are removed from the PI chassis. The power supply to the chassis must be turned off prior to removing any module. Removal of the power supply is especially important when removing modules with memory because failure to do so could lead to the destruction of the memory. The 5110FP filler plate can be installed once the module has been removed. Power to the system can be reapplied after installing the 5110-FP filler plate.
