This 5820-EI unit is an Allen-Bradley Interface Module Ethernet Pyramid Integrator that offers industry-standard Ethernet TCP/IP connections between various processors. The main features of the 5820-EI unit include reduced system integration cost, usage of existing host computers, and implementation of standard Simple Network Management Protocol. It also offers the support to the installed base of PLC processors on the Allen Bradley Data Highway. The host computers of the 5820-EI are Intel-based PC and UNIX Box. RSLinx and INTERCHANGE are the communication products of this unit.
When it comes to installing the 5820-EI module, install the EI module in the chassis. Connect the Ethernet and then connect the other connections to the module. Now to connect the module to the Ethernet, run the Ethernet cable to the processor and then locate the connector on the EI module, which is labeled as ENET. Attach the Ethernet cable to the connector and then the user must make sure to secure the connector. If the power of the system shuts down, then the user has to make sure that the Ethernet connection is secure. Once these are connected, check the jumper settings on the module. The user can replace the entire module if needed, in any case.
