The Allen-Bradley 1746-BAS-T Basic Communication Module is a specialty module that is used within the SLC 500 product family. This module occupies single slot of any 1746 chassis and may be used in modular or fixed style hardware of SLC 500.

This module is almost identical to the 1746-BAS module. The major difference of this module is that this module is the higher speed version of the 1746-BAS. This module enables data collection and integration capability of a SLC 500 controller. Allowing the system to integrate and collect data in the plant floor for communicating with Human Machine Interface (HMI) devices, modems, printers and other data collection devices.

This module has LED indicators to provide quick information regarding the module’s activity. It has an ACT, 485, PRT1, PRT2, FAULT, BA LOW, LED 1 and LED 2 indicators.

Through DH485 communication, multiple 1746-BAS-T modules may be connected in daisy-chain configuration for programming and configuration purposes only. A personal computer may be connected through the RS232 with a 1747-PIC converter. This converter transforms the RS232 interface to 485 which supports daisy-chain topology.

The Allen-Bradley 1746-BAS-T SLC 500 BASIC-T Modules comes with 24 KB of battery-backed RAM for storing user programs and data. This module also has a capacitive backup for the RAM during a battery change. The Allen-Bradley 1746-BAS-T is equipped with a socket for a 1771-DBMEM1 or a DBMEM2 memory module for the nonvolatile storage of user programs. The 1746-BAS-T also has a built-in battery-backed clock. The free-running clock on this module has a 5 ms resolution. The Allen-Bradley 1746-BAS-T comes with 2 serial D-shell ports isolated 9-pin (PRT1 and PRT2) that provide communications through the RS-232/423, RS-422, and RS-485 ports with I/O devices. This module also has a built-in multiple LED indicator for easy operator interface. Do not expose the module to surfaces or other areas that normally carry electrostatic charges. An electrostatic charge can alter or destroy the memory of the 1746-BAS-T.

The power supply loading at 5V DC of the Allen-Bradley 1746-BAS-T is 0.15A. The power supply loading at 24V DC is 0.07A. This module has an operating vibration of 2.5g at 57-2000 Hz.
