The Allen-Bradley 1746-OBP8 is an SLC 500 digital I/O module. This output module is a fast turn-off module with Eight (8) output points available and with each group having 4 points. The 1746-OBP8 module is a 24V DC source, high current digital DC output module that has e-fuse LED indicators that allow you to monitor its current state. It is ideal for use with programmable controllers with high current output applications. This module has an open-type enclosure and is mounted via the chassis. This 1746-OBP8 module is a current sourcing output module that has a power dissipation of 0.3 W and a surge current of 4 A for 10 ms. It has an operating voltage range of 20.4-26.4V DC source and a backplane current consumption of 0.135 A at 5 V DC. Maximum off-state leakage and minimum load current are both 1 mA each. This module has a 2 A continuous current per point at 0-60 deg. Celsius and an 8 A continuous current per module, also at 0-60 Deg. Celsius. On-state voltage drop is a maximum of 1 V at 2 A. Note that this module does not come with electronic protection. It has a heat dissipation of 0.300 watts per point, with a 0.675 minimum wattage and 3.08 total watts. This module has an operating temperature of 0-60 Deg. Celsius, which pertains to the temperature of the air surrounding the SLC 500 system, and a storage temperature of -40-85 Deg. Celsius. The 1746-OBP8 module has a non-condensing operating humidity of 5-95% and a NEMA standard ICS 2-230 noise immunity. The response delay time of this module is 1 ms for ON and 21 ms for OFF. The maximum resistive load for the signal delay is 1 ms for ON and 2 ms for OFF. Its operating vibration is 0.015 in. peak displacement at 5-57 Hz and 2.5 g acceleration at 57-2000 Hz. This module also has an operating shock of 30 g and isolation voltage of 1500 V.
This module is a High-Current solid-state output that is ideal for use in automative, packaging, material handling and many other applications. It is typically used for energizing electrical loads that operates with a voltage category of 24VDC. Some of these electrical loads include indicating devices such as Pilot Lamps and Alarm annunciator panels, Sounding devices such as Horn, Siren, Buzzer and Actuators such as Solenoid, motorized actuated devices.
If loads are operating with AC voltage category, the module may still be used by installing interposing relays. With interposing relays, the coil voltage of the relay matches the voltage output rating of the output module. The relay contacts accommodate the AC voltage which may be turned ON or turned OFF when the relay is energized by the module. Interposing relays also also provide isolation which may be used to increase module protection.
This module is compatible with SLC 500 processors, whether stand-alone, expanded or Remote I/O topology. It may also be used with fixed hardware style or modular hardware style SLC 500 controller platform. It occupies single slot of the chassis where backplane power is supplied. It also requires an external DC power supply for generating the designed output power.
