The 1746sc-NO8I is an analog output module that is manufactured by Spectrum controls, an encompass partner company of Rockwell Automation. This module is directly compatible with the SLC 500 series of Allen-Bradley that features Eight (8) current output channels that generate 0-20 mA and 4-20mA output signals at 16-bit Analog to Digital Converter (ADC) resolution. This module can be used to drive modulating devices such as Control Valves, Variable Frequency Drives (VFD), Positioners, and similar devices. It may also be used for signal retransmission for termination to panel meters, data loggers, and recorders as well as input to other PLC-based and single-loop controllers. The 1746sc-NO8I has a backplane current consumption of 120mA at 5 VDC and 240 mA at 24 VDC. The module has a width designed to occupy a single slot of the chassis. It can be installed to any available slot except slot 0 that is reserved for the CPU. It can be installed to a local I/O rack where the CPU resides or to a remote I/O rack as part of distributed I/O architecture. The 1746sc-NO8I comes with a removable Terminal Block (RTB) mounted on the front panel which simplifies troubleshooting as pre-existing wires can be maintained when installing and replacement of modules. Similar to other SLC 500 modules, this module does not support removable ad insertion under power (RIUP).
The Spectrum Controls 1746sc-NO8I analog current output module is made for use with Allen-Bradley SLC 500 controller systems. No less than 8 different analog current outputs are available on the 1746sc-NO8I output module so that it can connect to other devices. A grounded object should be touched before handling the 1746sc-NO8I module to protect it against electrostatic charge. Also, the module should only be handled from the front and the backplane connector pins should not be touched. The 1746sc-NO8I module should also be kept inside a static shielded container when it is not in use or when the module is being shipped between locations. The power to the SLC 500 system should always be disconnected before installing the module and before removing the module, in other words, the 1746sc-NO8IÂ module is not hot-swappable. This precaution is especially important in hazardous locations where there is a risk of explosion. A small Philips screwdriver and Belden 8761 cable are required for the wiring of the 1746sc-NO8I output module. The supplied 18-position terminal block does not need to be removed from the module for normal operation. If the terminal block needs to be removed for maintenance or any other reason, then it should be verified that the SLC 500 system is properly grounded, that the power is turned off, that the field wiring is routed away from other wiring and away from the motors, transformers, and other AC devices, and that the field wiring crosses the power or AC cables at right angles. When wiring field devices to the 1746sc-NO8I output module, a wire with maximum size of 14 AWG should be used and a maximum of two wires per terminal should be used. The recommended terminal screw torque is 7 to 9 pounds on an inch.
