The Allen-Bradley 1747-KE is a DH-485/RS-232C Interface Module is a module that provides connectivity to DH-485 network and DF1 enabled devices. The DF1 port on this module can be configured for functions with an RS-232/422 device. It can also be configured for RS-422 and RS-485 devices. The Allen-Bradley 1747-KE has eight LED indicators. The indicators are located on the front of this module. These indicators are for module diagnostics and operator interfaces. This module can connect to most types of dial-up networks or direct connection modems. The Allen-Bradley 1747-KE has an operating shock of 30 G and vibration of 2.5 G at 57-2000 Hz. The relative humidity of this module is from 5-95% without condensation. This module has an operating temperature of 0-60° C (32-140° F). The storage temperature of this module is from -40-85° C (-40-185° F). The types of compatible modems are the Manual modem, DTE Controlled Answer, Auto Answer, and the Direct Connect. The 1747-KE module requires 5V DC and 24V DC power from the SLC backplane. The module power consumption should be considered when designing your SLC 500 system. Do not install or remove the 1747-KE module from the chassis until all power is shut off (after approximately 10 seconds).

The Allen-Bradley 1747-KE is an Interface module. This module is part of the SLC 500 product family which is primarily used to enable DH-485 and DF1 connectivity through the embedded communication interfaces to this module. It has one (1) 9-Pin Sub-D connector that supports DF1 protocol and one (1) RJ-45 port that supports DH-485 protocol. It also has one (1) 9-pin Sub-D connector acting as the module’s configuration port.

The 1747-KE is a single slot module that is installed to a 1747 chassis. It comes with individual port isolations such as 500 Volts DC between backplane to CONFIG port; 500 Volts DC between backplane to DF1 port and 500 Volts DC between CONFIG and DF1 ports. Only the DH-485 port is not isolated. It carries certification from c-UL-us, CE and C-Tick. It is approved for use in application areas identified as Class 1, Groups A, B, C, or D, Division 2.

The 1747-KE is configurable for RS-232 / RS-423 / RS-422 and RS-485. Depending on the communication length, the data transmission rate varies. Supported data transmission rate of the ports are 300-19200 Kbps while the supported maximum cable distance range is 15 meters for RS-232; 60-1230 meters for RS-423; 1230 meters for RS-422 and RS-485. The general rule applies that when the cable length increases, the baud rate or transfer rate decreases.

The 1747-KE has embedded LED indicators to depict the status of the operation of the module. It has ACT, 485, CFG, DF1, FAULT, BA LOW, H/D and F / D indicators. It also comes with embedded jumpers along the internal circuitry to set the communication interface of the CONFIG port (JW1); DF1 PORT (JW2) and functionality and mode of the interface (JW4).
