The Allen-Bradley 1747-L40F is a fixed controller that is part of the SLC 500 system. It is small, simple, pocket-sized controller with the power and flexibility of a large controller. It consists of a processor with 1,024 words of user memory, a power supply, and a fixed number of I/Os. The 1747-L40F controller requires 24V DC line power. It has 12 inputs with 24V DC Sink and 8 DC transistor source outputs. It also has a high-speed counter. The 1747-L40F provides 4 microseconds of bit execution time and 8 milliseconds/1K of typical scan time. It has a heat dissipation ranging from 7.4 – 15 Watts. It uses a capacitor-based RAM memory with an EEPROM backup option. For wiring, the 1747-L40F supports Belden 9463 cable with a 14 AWG (American Wire Gauge) maximum size. For programming, control, and troubleshooting, a Hand-Held Terminal (HHT) is used. For communication, it uses an RS-232 port to provide communication over long distances.
The 1747-L40F controller has a NEMA standard noise immunity and enclosure for better environmental protection. It has LED indicators for Power, PC Run, Low Battery, Forced I/O, and CPU Fault. The 1747-L40F provides extended versatility with a 2-slot expansion chassis that allows the addition of two more I/O modules. It is intended for use in industrial environments with a 0 - 60°C operating temperature and a vibration acceleration of 2.5G at 57 – 2000 Hz.
There is also an expansion chassis which provides two slots to add I/O modules. The 1747-L40F can have many capabilities depending on optional expansion with additional attachments. You can add ControlNet I/O (1771, 1746, 1793, 1794, and 1797 I/O modules) with a 1747-SCNR15 module. DeviceNet I/O can be incorporated with a 1747-SDN module. A Universal Remote I/O can be added with a 1747-SC module. BASIC Programming capability, DH-485, and RS-232 communication ports can be added with a 1746-BAS or 1746-BAS-T module. For wiring purposes, the system supports the Belden #9463 cable. Processors in the SLC 500 series allow for easy customization of a control system to match your exact requirements for applications. The Allen-Bradley SLC 500 processors come with a long history of customer satisfaction and strong reliability spanning hundreds of thousands of installations. The broad range of capabilities of the SLC 500 processors includes HVAC control, small process control, and assembly operations.
