The Allen-Bradley 1747-M5 is an adapter socket that can connect with the Allen-Bradley 1747-L511 and the 1747-L514 processors on the SLC 5/01 PLC, and with the Allen-Bradley 1747-L524 processor on the SLC 5/02 PLC.
PLCs are computers that control plant machinery through inputs and outputs. PLC programs are stored in the capacitor-backed processor RAM and the optional EEPROM modules. The PLC can also be programmed using the EEPROM modules and the 1747-M5 adapter socket. To do this, first, the EEPROM module is programmed using PROM programmers. Adapter sockets like the 1747-M5 adapter sockets are necessary for inserting the EEPROM modules into the programming equipment to ensure that they fit into the equipment. The memory module fits the 1747-M5 adapter socket, which then fits the programming equipment.
The 1747-M5’s own memory capacity is 32 KB of EEPROM and 4000 instructions with a user memory of 64,000 words. The adapter socket can also use flash memory for backup. Its program scan time takes 0.9 ms and its I/O scan time takes 0.225 ms.
The 1747-M5 adapter socket has 30 chassis module slots for adapting several devices to an equally wide variety of equipment. It can also communicate with other devices through its Ethernet and RS-232 ports. Its backplane current is 1 A at 5V DC and 175 mA at 24V DC. Take care to ensure that the adapter is inserted properly to avoid damage to it and the programming equipment and to avoid danger to personnel.
