The MVI46-GEC module is a generic ASCII Ethernet module developed by ProSoft Technology under license from Allen-Bradley/Rockwell Automation. It is designed to enable SLC processors to interface with ACSCII devices over the TCP/IP protocol. When the module is used, the SLC processor can communicate with compatible devices such as ASCII instruments with Ethernet interfaces. The MVI46-GEC module has 5 servers and clients. The MVI46-GEC module requires a single slot in an Allen-Bradley 1748 backplane for installation and it can be mounted in local/extended I/O racks only. Ladder logic is used for data transfers between the processor and module. The backplane load current is 800 milliamps at 5 Volts DC. The operating temperature range is 0 to 60 degrees Celsius and the storage temperature range is -40 to 85 degrees Celsius. The shock rating of the MVI46-GEC module is 30 g for operational shock and 50 g for non-operational shock. The vibration rating is 5 g for 10 to 150 Hertz.

The processor on the Allen-Bradley and ProSoft Technology MVI46-GEC generic ASCII Ethernet module is compatible with the Allen-Bradley/Rockwell Automation SLC 5/02 M0.M1 or later processors. LED status indicators are available on the module for displaying the module status, backplane transfer status, Ethernet link/activity status, serial activity status, and the error status. The configuration and debugging for the MVI46-GEC module are done through a CFG port with an RJ-45 connector that supports the RS-232 serial protocol. Each server on the module monitors the state, IP and port addresses of the connected client device and error codes.
