The Prosoft MVI46-GSC Generic Serial Communication module is a generic ASCII serial interface module by Prosoft Technology, which provides ASCII character communication to the Allen Bradley SLC platform in many automated industrial applications. This module has 2 fully programmable ports, which supports sending and receiving of large ASCII character strings across the platform, and it provides the SLC platform with easy and configurable ASCII communication ports, which saves processor port allocation and processing time. It is used in barcode scanner, weight scale interface, and terminal port emulation applications. The MVI46-GSC occupies a single slot on the 1746 backplane, and it draws 800 milli-Ampere backplane current at 5 Volt DC from the Chassis. It can be used as an input and output module on the SLC processor, as it can directly access the processor memory for data transfer using M0/M1 files, and each individually configured ASCII ports can receive and transmit ASCII string characters. Transmitted data is transferred in Ladder Logic format, and each transmission has stream mode termination type. This module transmits data at a rate of 110 to 115.2 Kilobaud, with 5 to 8 data bid size, and it comes with 2 serial ports (PRT1, and PRT2), RJ45 CFG Port for RS-232 communication, and a configurable RJ45 RS-232 connector. This module has LED indicators, which shows backplane status, application status, error status, and module status, and each transmitted data has a selectable signal delay time between 0 to 65535 milliseconds. The MVI46-GSC has a functioning temperature range of 0 to 60 degree Celsius (32 to 140 degree Fahrenheit), at 5 to 95% non-condensing relative humidity range, and it has -40 to 85 degrees Celsius (-40 to 185 degrees Fahrenheit) non-operating temperature range.
