The Allen-Bradley 1783-ZMS8T8E2TGN is ArmorStratix5700 Industrial Ethernet Switch with Network Address Translation (NAT) capabilities. This switch has an IP67 housing rating and is intended for use in extreme environments where there is a need for communication nods near the field equipment. There are many devices that can be connected to the switch by using EtherNet/IP network, including the following: PLCs, safety guards, sensors, servo motor drivers, HMIs and control displays, input/output devices and transmitters.

By using Cisco IOS integration, the Ethernet network is established. The 1783-ZMS8T8E2TGN also offers support for up to 18 ports. Out of a total of 18 ports, 8 are Power-over-Ethernet (PoE) ports, 8 copper (M12 D-code) ports, and 2 are copper (M12 X-code) ports. The 10/100 copper ports operate at 10 Mbps or 100 Mbps, half or full duplex. Multicast traffic and applications that use multicast (such as CIP Sync IEEE1588) are integrated. For backup purposes, users have an optional slot designed for an SD card, though the card must be the exact 1784-SD1 SD card from Rockwell Automation. Connection to the console port can be made via an M12-DB9 cable.

Industrial automation networks can be accessed through the switch by an EtherNet/IP network interface; this interface uses the Common Industrial Protocol (CIP) for its application layer and IP/TCP/UDP for its transfer and network layers. This interface is accessible via any of the Ethernet ports, simply by using the IP address of the switch.

Network Address Translation (NAT) capabilities are supported for this switch. By using this option, commissioning time can be significantly cut down by one on one IP address mapping. Devices with one IP address on a private subnet can be segmented into multiple matching private subnets while keeping their unique references on the public subnet.

A 24 Volt DC power supply should be applied to the device whose power consumption is 17 Watts. Relay connectors and alarm relays with 1A current rating are supported and can be activated for power supply, environmental and port status alarm situations. Open or closed contacts are configurable for an alarm. No separate power connectors are available for PoE.

Switch Database Management (SDM) templates can be used for system resources configuration in the switch for a specific feature optimization process. For some functions, a template can be selected to provide the highest usage of the system. The SDM templates that are made available are Lanbase, Dual IPv4, and IPv6, Default.
