The Allen-Bradley 2706-E23J32 Dataliner Message Display is an old model in Allen-Bradley’s DL40 series of message display terminals. Its successor is a message display terminal with the catalog number 2706-LV2P DL40 that has several enhancements and lacks some of the 2706-E23J32’s out of date features. Its vacuum fluorescent display screen shows 2 lines of text, displays 20 characters on each line and measures 4.4 x 14.4 in. The 2706-E23J32 has 32 KB of RAM and 85 - 265V AC input power. The 2706-E23J32 Message Display is designed to receive slave addresses and variable data from a PLC or SLC module. It also has an RS-485 port and an RS-232 port. The symbols and characters on the vacuum fluorescent display are readable at up to 25 feet away. The characters can be Cyrillic, English, or International. The 2706-E23J32 must be mounted on a panel or in an enclosure with a NEMA Type 12 or 13 rating before it is wired to the control system. It can accept information from programmable controllers and it supports a 12V DC terminal for powering outputs. The 2706-E23J32 can also check a programmable controller’s output by displaying the output’s binary status values. Its battery-backed real-time clock tells the current date and time. External devices like printers, slave displays, and alarm systems can be connected to it through the ports. The 2706-E23J32 can deliver alarms and messages in any industrial environment thanks to its ASCII input and RS-422 and RS-232 communication ports.
