The Allen-Bradley/Rockwell Automation 2706-P42R message display terminal has been designed and manufactured as a member of the InView terminal series. The 2706-P42R InView message display terminal by Allen-Bradley is an electronic message display device that is used in factories for displaying messages that are readable from a long distance away. It has a red matrix LCD display screen with dimensions of 91.4 x 12.2 centimeters (36 x 4.8 inches) and a resolution of 120 x 16 pixels. It uses the standard and extended ASCII character sets with display sizes of 12.2 centimeters (4.8 inches) on the top line and of 5.3 centimeters (2.1 inches) on the bottom line. The top line supports 12 characters maximum and the bottom line supports 20. Messages on the display screen of the 2706-P42R terminal are visible at a distance of up to 60 meters (200 feet).

The programming is done with a computer connected to the 2706-P42R terminal through the RS-485 and RS-232 base configured ports which are also used for connecting the terminal to peripheral devices like printers and keyboards. The 2706-P42R terminal uses a back-mounted power supply source with an input voltage range of 100 to 240 Volts AC at 50 to 60 Hertz. It has an operational relative humidity range between 5 and 95% without condensation and an operational temperature range of 0 to 50 degrees Celsius (32 to 122 degrees Fahrenheit). It has a NEMA Type 12 enclosure and it is CE and cUL-us certified for operation in Europe and the USA.
