The Eaton Cutler-Hammer S811V36N3S soft starter is a solid-state reduced voltage soft starter. It is a 3-phase controller with a control voltage of 24 Volts DC and a supply voltage rating of 200 to 600 Volts AC. Applications that make use of this Eaton S811 series soft starter include fan, chiller, pump, conveyor, mixer, and lift applications. This device implements Intelligent Technology and it can bypass SCR power after the motor reaches its nominal speed to reduce the permanent losses. The S811V36N3S soft starter has several digital inputs that have the following typical configuration: Input 1 – Start, Input 2 – Jog, Input 3 – Hand/Auto (control source), and Input 4 – Fault Reset. It also has 2 digital outputs to signal the by-pass activation and fault conditions.

The most commonly used mode for soft starting (voltage ramp) is also implemented in the S811V36N3S soft starter. This mode starts by applying voltage to the motor that is defined by the Initial Torque parameter. This start voltage is then gradually increased to follow the Soft Start Time parameter. When the unit detects that the full motor speed has been reached, it activates the bypass contactor. The kick start option can be activated for loads that need more power to start moving. The S811V36N3S soft starter has a frequency rating of 50 to 60 Hertz and a current rating of 360 Amps. It is equipped with many programmable protection mechanisms like electronic motor overload detection, phase reversal protection, and overheating detection over thermal memory. This controller’s operating temperature range is -30 to 50 degrees Celsius, and its non-condensing acceptable relative humidity range is 5 to 95%.
