The Cutler Hammer brand manufactured the D100EAA20, which is an expander chassis for a D100 controller. It is a 20 I/O expander and is compatible with any D100 controller system. Up to two expanders can be used in a single system, as long as the total number of outputs and inputs is not higher than the maximum I/O number for the controller. For instance, a 20 I/O controller can only take a single D100EAA20 module, so as not to exceed it's 20 I/O limit. The terminal numbers on the nameplates of the D100EAA20 reflect the input and output devices. However, there are instances in which the terminal numbers don’t match the actual system addresses. The operator can correct this with the use of pressure sensitive labels. This often happens when the D100EAA20 is used with a 40 I/O controller, or when two expansion units are utilized by the system. The D100EAA20 connects to the controller with a cable, in order to provide additional inputs and outputs. This cable comes with an expansion unit. Both the expander and the controller are usually mounted inside a protective enclosure, which can withstand harsh industrial environments. This enclosure can be either be mounted with screws or mounted on a DIN rail, since its chassis has DIN rail clips and brackets, for this very purpose.
The D100EAA20 has a length of 9.4 inches and height of 4.3 inches; its depth is 4.4 inches. When in use, ensure that the room it is in has an ambient humidity of less than 95, with no water condensation, whether due to fast changes in temperature or another cause. This unit’s surrounding atmosphere must also be free of pollutants and chemicals, in order to keep the module as protected and functional as possible. Additionally, high power control panels cannot be in the immediate vicinity of the controller expander’s system.
