The IC200MDD851 discrete I/O module is a product of GE Fanuc Automation that is manufactured as part of the Versamax product family. This module has 2 groups of 8 discrete outputs each, for a total of 16 outputs. Each group contains either positive or negative logic inputs, and the positive inputs draw their current from the input devices then return it to the common. On the other hand, the negative logic inputs do the reverse, receiving their current from the common then returning it to the input device. This gives the module even more versatile in terms of functionality. The input devices are all connected between the input and common terminals. When the compatibility with TTL devices is required, the negative logic connection should be used. The IC200MDD851 module outputs can be positive or sourcing type outputs which switches the loads to a positive DC supply and supplies the current to the loads.
The backplane of the PLC powers the GE Fanuc IC200MDD851 discrete I/O module while the output loads have an external power source. The Central Processing Unit or the Network Interface Unit in the system is used for the intelligent processing of this GE Fanuc module with 4 bits of discrete input data rate and it receives 8 bits of discrete output data. The GE Fanuc IC200MDD851 module features LED indicators that display the on and off statuses of the output and input sources, but the backplane power needs to be working to show these conditions with the LEDs. Additionally, the output LED indicators are dependent on the field power but they are not reliant on the load statuses. The green LED that is the power LED turns on when the IC200MDD851 module is supplied with field power, making it easier to find any power disruption to the different areas.
