It uses a token ring communication system with baseband transmission and Manchester encoding for trustworthy communication. It uses a 5C-2V coaxial cable for communication and transmits data at a rate of 2 Mbps. Its data link and data read/write services can handle messages with a maximum size of 542 bytes (excluding the header). The CV500-SLK21 has a big data link word capacity and can store up to 2966 words in both its DM and Link regions. The CV500-SLK21 can effectively manage 62 nodes running at once, spanning distances of up to 1 kilometre. For handling up to two incoming messages and one outgoing message, it has a buffer. The device also includes a number of reliability and diagnostic features that improve its reliability, availability, and serviceability (RAS), such as a watchdog timer, CRC-CCITT error detection option, self-diagnostics, failed node bypass (for optical systems), and an error log.
