The 160-DN2 is an accessory module from the Bulletin 160 Smart Speed Controllers (SSC) by Allen-Bradley. This module enables DeviceNet capability, allowing the host drive to communicate and exchange data over the DeviceNet communication network at selectable transmission rates of 125, 250, and 500 kbps. This accessory module is used to allow integration of the drive’s data to a Human Machine Interface (HMI), Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems, and similar visualization systems. This DeviceNet module may also be used to communicate with a programming workstation, ControlLogix, CompactLogix programmable automation controllers (PAC), SLC 500 via the 1747-SDN, PLC5 through the 1771-SDN, and other devices including 3rd party products such as gateways and protocol converters that are DeviceNet capable. The 160-DN2 comes with embedded DIP switches to set the module’s DeviceNet parameters such as node address from 0-63 and transmission rate of 125 kbps, 250 kbps, and 500 kbps. Supported DeviceNet cable distance supported by the 160-DN2 is dependent on the transmission speed configured. At 125 kbps, the maximum cable distance is 500 meters or 1640 feet; 250 meters or 820 feet at 250 kbps and 100 meters or 328 feet at 500 kbps. An optional Ferrite cable clamp with catalog number #HI28B2039 from Ferrishield #0443164151 from Fair-Rite may be installed along the DeviceNet trunkline or a Drop Line cable can be installed to eliminate cable noise. The 160-DN2 operates in 3 modes Power-up reset mode, Run mode, and Error mode. The network configuration of this module is implemented via the RSNetworx for DeviceNet.

The Allen-Bradley 160-DN2 is a DeviceNet communication module compatible that is compatible with Bulletin 160 variable speed drives. The 160-DN2 communication module is engineered for use exclusively with 160 SSC Series AC drives (series A, series B, and Series C). This is an optional interface, used to provide a digital link between these drives and other DeviceNet devices. The connection of the module to an AC drive is simply established through the expansion (keyboard) port on the front of the 160 series AC drive. The following components are user-accessible: module installation latch, ready LED, the fault LED, comm LED, the eight-position DIP switch, and the DeviceNet terminal block plug. The 160-DN2 is power supplied through a terminal block connector. The DIP switch positioned at the rear end is used for DeviceNet node address and baud rate setting. When properly used, this module implements DeviceNet protocol. In the communication configuration of a Bulletin, 160 drive with the 160-DN2 module, a Group 2 Slave Only device is included. The 160-DN2 supports the change of state (or cyclic) messaging, DeviceNet slave polled messaging, and DeviceNet slave explicit messaging. The Explicit Unconnected Message Manager is not supported by the device. If intending to use this communication module to change a 160-DN1 DeviceNet communication module on any bulletin 160 AC drive, the user will need to generate an EDS file for the new module and map 160-DN2 to the network. The 160-DN2 is delivered in the following scope a DeviceNet module, a linear plug (10 pins) with probe holes and jackscrews, and a user manual. The device is supplied with 11 to 25 Volts DC and has a 1 Watt power consumption. Its operating temperature range is 0 to 50 degrees Celsius (32 to 122 degrees Fahrenheit). Its communication baud rates are 125, 250, or 500 kbps. Its mechanical dimensions are 67.5 x 70 x 45.4 millimeters (2.68 x 2.76 x 1.79 inches).
