Allen Bradley Kinetix 5500

The Kinetix 5500 EtherNet/IP Servo Drives operate with and connect with the CompactLogix 5370 controllers which support the integrated motion on the EtherNet/IP network. With an innovative, compact design, the Kinetix 5500 servo drives are specially engineered to save space on the machine and simplify the wiring system. They also feature a dual-port Ethernet system that supports both Device Level Ring (DLR) and linear topologies. Other features of the Kinetix 5500 servo drives include an innovative shared AC and DC bus connection that helps with the configuration of the multi-axis applications. It provides digital feedback via 1 cable and works as the disturbance observer that allows for up to an 80 to 1 inertia mismatch. These drives allow the users to run both induction and servo motors on a single drive platform.

Allen-Bradley Kinetix 5500 servo drives use the load observer real-time tuning technology which saves time by eliminating the need to tune every axis. Additionally, they automatically compensate for the unknown compliances and mechanics, including those found in belts, shafts, and flexible couplings. They also automatically adjust for various applications with varying levels of inertia during operation. Generally, these drives are intended to enhance machine operation and performance. The Kinetix 5500 Integrated Safety Servo Drives come with built-in safety drives that enhance safety signal traveling from the Ethernet/IP network cable instead of being hardwired from the drive to the controller. The drives’ configurations can be changed on the network without necessarily changing the wiring. This is all done through the Studio 5000 Logix Designer software and a controller over the EtherNet/IP network. The users can do several things with the Kinetix 5500 Integrated Safety Servo Drives, including decreasing the wiring of the safety circuit, validating the safety system by code reuse, and reducing the cabinet space requirements.

About Kinetix 5500

The Allen-Bradley Kinetix 5500 Ethernet/IP servo drives are ultra-modern motor speed control devices for both servo and induction motors multi-axis systems. The ability of these servo drives to operate servo and induction motors in the same platform is very important for equipment manufacturers who want to unify these components during multi-axis machine production. The Kinetix 5500 system modules are very narrow and do not take up much space. All of the axis modules can be zero-stacked to save space and bring a modern look to the electrical cabinet. Kinetix 5500 series drives are also known as integrated safety servo drives due to the fact that the safety signal does not have to be connected by a wire between the drives and the controllers, but it is transmitted via Ethernet. This can be important in systems that are subject to frequent hardware changes because this prevents wiring changes, and the security system can be reconfigured easily with only software configuration changes. Since there are 2 Ethernet ports on the Kinetix 5500 modules, it is possible to achieve the line and DLR (Device Level Ring) network topologies.

The Allen-Bradley Kinetix 5500 system relies on the patented load observer real-time tuning technology which strives to look at all the axles as a system and it does not individually adjust only 1 of them at a time. It also automatically adjusts to devices that are additionally mounted on the servo motors and it compensates for their influence in the calculations of the parameters that are vital for controlling the speed, acceleration, and torque of the motors. The Kinetix 5500 servo drives use only 1 cable for the feedback, motor brake, and motor power connections which significantly reduce installation expenses and time.
