CompactLogix

Allen Bradley CompactLogix

The CompactLogix system is a Logix controller system widely used in medium and small industrial applications. These systems are used to control applications on the machine level. In general, a CompactLogix system is built by using a controller equipped with I/O modules and the DeviceNet communication network. The Allen-Bradley manufactured CompactLogix system offers state-of-the-art control, I/O, and communication in a compact package. It is manufactured with different specifications to meet different application needs based on the input type, output, memory type, communication module, enclosure type, and mounting options. The CompactLogix system can be controlled by using the RSLogix 5000 programming software. The Logix system is equipped with a variety of communication ports, including the Ethernet/IP and ControlNet ports. These ports are used with different kinds of networks. The built-in serial port is available to connect extra add-on devices to the controller system. The device support local expansion modules.

The CompactLogix system can support 16/30 I/O modules with a maximum of 3 I/O banks with 2 expansion cables. The controller can keep the network parameters at any legal node address. An additional CompactFlash card can be added for extra storage. All the CompactLogix systems can be mounted by using a DIN Rail. During mounting, the spacing between enclosure walls and wireways should be maintained for proper airflow. The controllers are equipped with a lithium-ion battery to supply power. The batteries should be stored in a cool and dry place. All of the controller devices are equipped with a reset button which clears the user programs from the internal memory if the controllers have trouble during the startup. The controllers support device-level ring, linear, and traditional star topology. All of the CompactLogix controllers come with a 1-year warranty, starting from the date of installation.

Not an Authorized Distributor: DO Supply is not an authorized distributor for listed manufacturers or tradenames and therefore the manufacturer's warranty does not apply. All of our products come with DO Supply's 2-year warranty.

Allen-Bradley CompactLogix Controllers

Introduction

Allen-Bradley 1769 CompactLogix Controllers are a cutting edge control system offering communication and I/O elements in a distributed control package.

The CompactLogix controller, part of the Logix family of controllers, provides a small, powerful, cost-effective system consisting of the following:

• RSLogix™ 5000 programming software • Built-in communication ports for EtherNet/IP (1769-L32E and 1769-L35E only) and ControlNet (1769-L32C and 1769-L35CR only) networks • A 1769-SDN communication interface module providing I/O control and remote device configuration over DeviceNet • A built-in serial port on every CompactLogix controller • Compact I/O modules providing a compact, DIN-rail or panel-mounted I/O system

Considerations for your CompactLogix System

• The CompactLogix controller is always the leftmost module in the system. • The controller must be within four modules of the system power supply. Some I/O modules may be up to eight modules away from the power supply. See the documentation for your 1769 I/O modules for details. • The 1769-L32E controller supports as many as 16 I/O modules and the 1769-L35E controller supports as many as 30 I/O modules. Both controllers can use a maximum of 3 I/O banks with 2 expansion cables. • Each I/O bank requires its own power supply. • Only one controller can be used in a CompactLogix system. • A 1769-ECR right end cap or 1769-ECL left end cap is required to terminate the end of the communication bus.

Key Features

• Two EtherNet™/IP ports • One USB port • Support for local expansion modules • Control of local and distributed I/O modules • Use of 1784-SD1 or 1784-SD2 Secure Digital (SD) card for nonvolatile memory • A battery is no longer necessary because of the internal energy-storage solution Some CompactLogix 5370 controllers provide the following functionality: • Built-in power supply • Some combination of embedded digital, analog, and high-speed counter modules • Support for Integrated Motion over an EtherNet/IP network • Access to DeviceNet™ networks
