The Flex I/O 1794 system is a distributed I/O system from Allen-Bradley/Rockwell Automation. This Allen-Bradley manufactured system helps to connect several networks together by using different communication protocols, including the Ethernet/IP, ControlNet, and DeviceNet networks. It is a low-cost modular distribution system that offers different features and functionalities in its modules. It is rack-based and this design saves factory installation space. The Flex I/O 1794 system allows 2 separate connection terminals for field power, which makes connections to the adjacent terminal bases easy. A single adapter has the ability to communicate with 8 input/output modules. It can connect with 256 digital I/O or 96 analog I/O or a mixture of analog and digital I/O to meet the demands of different applications or users. The I/O from the 1794 series are compact in size and they use wires directly from the sensor to the terminal base which makes the installation process less complicated and eliminates the use of terminal strips. This system is easy to configure and run by using the speed engineering and installation wizards. The removal and insertion under power feature and the module level diagnosis feature in the system reduces the downtime of the system.
The Flex I/O 1794 system supports HART, RTD, and thermocouple applications. The systems are available with modules in different variants. Some of the module variants in the 1794 series have isolated inputs or outputs, protected outputs, electronic fusing, or diagnostic features that are available on some modules. The analog modules in the 1794 series come with individually-configured channels. They make use of selectable input filters on many modules. The Flex I/O 1794 system supports on-board scaling and internal calibration is possible with different modules. The system has been certified with the ATEX, CE, UL, SIL2, ODVA, and C-Tick standards. Some of the special environmentally rated modules in the 1794 system series can be operated in harsh environments because they are conformally coated.
