1746-C16

The Allen-Bradley 1746-C16 is a chassis interconnect cable option when building multiple chassis configurations in SLC 500 Modular Systems. This ribbon-type cable is used to link one modular hardware chassis below the other, within an enclosure. It is 1.27 meters (50 inches) in length; the longest among the SLC 500 Programmable Controller Rack Interconnect Cables by Allen-Bradley. Do not use other cables other than those recommended. Linking with cables longer than the 1746-C16 can have adverse effects on data communication integrity, and this can lead to unsafe operation.

When installing multiple chassis configurations, the 1746-C16 Chassis Interconnect Cable should be laid out and linked before adding the power supply. To avoid effects of vibration and shock, properly secure the cable. The right end of the chassis must always be the exit which is connected to the left end of another I/O chassis. To ensure this, check the length and take note that the connector is keyed for proper setup. The end with a key on top should be plugged into the right socket of the chassis. The opposite end will have a key on the inside and should be inserted into the expansion chassis.

The 1746-C16 Connector has a rigid construction with an unbendable shrink wrap applied at its end. This design promotes strain relief. Allow for proper bend radius with a required clearance of at least 101.6 millimeters (4 inches). To remove the cable, the tabs on the socket should be moved outward with just enough force for the connector to pop out.
