The Allen-Bradley 1747-DSN is a distributed I/O scanner. This DIO system consists of an SLC processor, a scanner, an isolated coupler block, and I/O. This module connects and communicates with each I/O block in round robin mode. The 1747-DSN starts the communication with the I/O block by sending the output data first. The I/O block always responds to it by sending the input data back to the 1747-DSN. The Allen-Bradley 1747-DSN has a backplane current consumption of 900 mA at 5V. The module can operate at a temperature between 32 and 140 °F and you can store it in an environment at a temperature between -40 and 185 °F. The relative ambient humidity for storage and operation for the 1747-DSN is between 5 and 95% without condensation.
The 1747-DSN forms a DIO system when it is properly connected to the DIO Link and the DH-485 Data Link. The DIO Link and the DH-485 Data Link are independent networks. The DIO Link comes with the scanner and the I/O blocks. This module allows the SLC processor to exchange input and output information with up to 30 I/O blocks. The 1747-DSN scanner presents this statistics to the SLC processor. The maximum cable length of the DIO link is 2,500 ft (762 meters) with a Belden 9463 cable. The DIO Link is Allen-Bradley's communications network that supports the transfer of high-speed control information. A DIO Link consists of 1 main device (scanner) and some slave devices (I/O blocks). The scanner block and I/O are devices chained by a single twisted pair cable.
