The 1747-PSD SLC 500 Program Storage Device by Allen-Bradley is a device which allows for easy and convenient backup of a PLC. It makes downloading and uploading of the PLC programs and initiating the PLC mode from RUN to PROGRAM mode easy. The 1747-PSD has a 64K maximum Flash EEPROM which can handle over 10,000 uploads and unlimited downloads. It has external operational DC power supply ratings of 7-30V DC and 250mA and it can also be powered by a triple-A battery. The 1747-PSD has 2 LED indicator lights (red and green) which provide status feedback. The device is connected to the SLC 500 using the standard RS-232 9-pin D-shell connector to the SLC-500 processor 9-pin RS-232 port. The 1747-PSD has a 0-60°C (32-140°F) functional temperature range and it functions best at 5-95% humidity without condensation. It has an operational vibration of 1.0G at 5-2000Hz and it is designed to withstand an operational shock of 30G. NOTE: when switching modes start from OFF/NEXT CMD
EX: To change from run mode to program mode
- With the switch in the off position, switch to MODE CHANGE then hit EXECUTE
The green light will flicker, indicating that the command is being executed and will stop flickering when the command has been fully executed.
- To change back to run mode, change the switch back to the OFF/NEXT CMD then back to MODE CHANGE and hit EXECUTE. The Green light will flicker and change back to solid green when the command has been executed
Troubleshooting
Check batteries
Ensure You are using the correct external power supply ( if external power is being used)
Check communications cable
If possible check the PLC baud rate for communications
Ensure the switch is working correctly by changing modes once or twice
TESTING
NOTE: the green light will flicker when the command is being executed and when completed the light will be solid
Connect communications cable to the PLC and PSD
From the off position, switch to mode
Change the processor mode from run to Prog
(toggle back and forth several times to ensure the 1747-PSD is switching modes every time)
- Switch to FROM PLC, hit the execute button
(program will be downloaded)
Now switch to: TO PLC. Hit EXECUTE
Change the processor back to run mode and the program will have successfully been loaded into the controller
To check that the 1747-PSD has worked correctly:
The PLC will be in run mode with no faults
Check with a PC that has RS-Logix software
