About Panelview 5500
The Panelview 5500 series is a series of Allen-Bradley operator interface devices used for monitoring and controlling applications attached to the ControlLogix® 5570 devices and the CompactLogix™ devices. The Panelview 5500 terminals feature the EtherNet/IP network for communication. The Allen-Bradley high-performance operator terminals feature animated graphics and text displays for providing the users with a view of the operating state of the attached applications. The Panelview 5500 terminals support the touchscreen and keypad controls. The Panelview 5500 terminals come with various features and capabilities. The units come with tightly integrated control and design environments that allow for information sharing between the terminals and the connected applications and Logix platforms.
The Panelview 5500 series supports the Studio 5000® environment software for providing the view designer and the Logix designer applications with a single point of access. The Allen-Bradley Panelview 5500 terminals are designed to support a maximum of 50 user-defined screens and a maximum of 500 Logix-based alarms. The Panelview 5500 terminals are also built to support the Ethernet communication and device-level ring topology. The units come with a high-speed human-machine interface button for control and they are easy-to-configure units with simple-to-use navigation menus. The Panelview 5500 terminals feature an operating temperature range of 0 to 55 degrees Celsius while the relative humidity range is 5 to 95%, non-condensing. The Panelview 5500 terminals feature 512 MB of RAM and they support Secure Digital (SD) cards. The Panelview 5500 terminals come with status indicators that are used for monitoring the units’ performance to ensure optimal use.
PanelView 5500 Startup Failure
If your PanelView 5500 fails to startup properly, always check the power supply first. Ensure the terminal is receiving the correct voltage and that the wiring and connections to the power source are valid. Check both the AC and DC power requirements. Confirm that all power wiring is correct for the AC and DC power wiring and that all wiring specifications are met. Finally, check for stuck keys or see if anything is touching the display.
If you continue to have startup issues, check the status indicators.
PanelView 5500 Status Indicators
Two status indicators are located on the back of your PanelView 5500 terminal. The STS indicator is green and reflects the terminal is powered on and operational. The ERR indicator is red and reflects firmware and hardware faults. Upon startup, the ERR indicator should be off and the STS indicator on. If the ERR indicator flashes a few times at startup, this is not a concern. However, if both indicators are off you should check the power cable. See the table below to interpret the terminal's indicator status:
